What this quote means is that whenever you tell a simple lie you will most likely continue to lie by backing it up with more lies and making matters worse.The consequences will grow, and if you would lie to the law they could arrest you by giving a fake testimony which can lead them into a dead end.Lies can be done many times a day but you must correct yourself to tell the story more clearly.When you tell the truth you gain the confidence from others, but when you lie you do the opposite and  you make yourself look bad.Lies can come in all shapes and sizes but that doesn't matter because it is wrong.
